The Challenge

Due to the complicated design parameters of specifications received from their clients, MEC must maintain a secure and detailed repository of their documents. In their original system, some engineers used AutoCAD, and others used Excel or Micro Station to create the construction specifications.

A project manager’s time in the field is limited by the considerable amount of time it takes engineers to document accurate construction specifications.

Each MEC location had its own design documentation process, resulting in lost or unorganized revision history when design documents were edited.

The Solution

The MEC window application provides a structured management system that allows users to create multiple projects and store their construction design specifications. It automatically generates precise AutoCAD drawings based on the user defined design specifications.

The application maintains a detailed revision history documenting, each time a construction design specification has changed and a AutoCAD drawing is regenerated.

Several SSRS reports are also available to the user, that document design specifications for all projects and OCS designs.

The Benefits

Engineers no longer have to manually create accurate construction design drawings. They just have to enter in the design parameters and the application performs the necessary calculations and generates the correct AutoCAD drawings.

Engineers now have a centralized design documentation process, and are able to easily reference previous revisions of all designs entered into the system, and note why a design was changed.
